Seven Christmas Gifts Moms Can Easily Make for Kids - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com

There's so much pressure on parents to pull off a fabulous Christmas, but on a tight budget, that can be a tall order. But, when you create the gifts yourself, rather than buy them, all you've invested is a small amount of money and a little of your time. And, these gifts are so easy and inexpensive, you can afford to make several different ones.

One thing that teens love - boys or girls - is CD's and moms can make a nice CD holder for either a son or a daughter. An ordinary cardboard box is all you need to start,Wholesale Earring. Cover the box, inside and out, with fuzzy fabric, felt, corduroy, denim or another thick fabric, using glue to secure. Thick fabrics will make it easier to conceal the box and don't stretch out of place like some fabrics do when you're working with them. If you use several of the same size boxes you can make a stackable set than any teen would love.

A different CD holder is also easy to make: cut a piece of fabric the size you want and roll one end around a dowel. Put a slit in each end of the dowel and tie knots at the ends of a piece of twine to hold the dowel on the wall. Now cut pockets from a piece of clear plastic. Use fabric glue to attach the pockets to the large piece of fabric. Kids can slip their favorite CD's into the pockets and the plastic lets them view which CD is in the pocket without removing it.

If you've got a daughter, and she likes earrings, you don't have to be experienced in jewelry-making to create some beautiful pieces for her this Christmas. Purchase gold-tone or silver-tone earring hardware, like wires or posts, and make your own creations. Faux jewels, small trinkets, and beads of every shape, size and color will make it easy for you to create some unique styles for a girl of any age. Use hot glue to affix decorations onto a post earring back, or string beads on fishing twine, which is virtually unbreakable and almost invisible. Look online and you'll find zillions of designs that are easy and cheap to make.

For young kids, grab a metallic cookie sheet or pizza pan, cut pictures out of magazines, then attach them to magnetic sheeting. The kids will have hours of fun with the new play set that allows them to take it with them while traveling or play with it at home. They simply store the magnetic pieces on one side of the pan while playing with some of the magnetic figures and accessories on the other. The magnetic sheeting is available for about ten bucks a roll, and one roll can make a huge set, or several sets!

Make a unique and really cool purse out of a cigar box, or a similar type of box. You'll find the hardware, like handle and hinges, at a craft store. Cover the box, inside and out, with fabric, felt or fake fur. Fake fur is great to work with because it often hides flaws in the workmanship easier than other fabrics. After covering with fabric, attach the hardware and your daughter will love it.

Make a set of building blocks yourself by first purchasing wood in assorted shapes at a craft store then painting or further decorating the blocks yourself. Wooden pieces are available in dowel shapes, flat pieces, blocks, ball shapes and more. Spray paint makes it easy to finish them and then you can add stickers, or use magic markers to enhance them.

Purchase iron-on transfer paper from a store that sells computer papers and inks. Buy inexpensive tee shirts - without the pocket - to use for the project. Print out pictures of your child's favorite pet, a picture of your child with his or her best friend, or other prints your child might like. Iron the image onto the shirt for a unique gift that will thrill. Don't forget to make the image a mirror image, so that when you transfer it to the shirt, it won't be backwards.

There's lots of small gifts you can make for your kids without breaking the bank. Try some of these projects and you'll be able to make little look like plenty.
